The sprint retrospective is the primary mechanism by which agile teams and by extension, organizations as well, can achieve continuous improvement by constructively embracing successes and failures as opportunities. As a kind of “self-critique,” the retrospective is especially prone to organizational and interpersonal issues that can stifle full participation by all team members. Retrospectives are most effective when all perspectives, even the most naïve, are represented, so it is important to create an environment that minimizes any barriers to full participation.
